Description
Very RARE 1972 Omega De Ville Automatic Men’s watch due to its large 36mm size, rare blue dial, flat sapphire crystal, thin 8mm case, rare cal 711 movement, excellent mechanical condition, quintuple signed, and great cosmetic condition.EXTRA LARGE SIZE
The watch case measures 36mm (EXCLUDING the crown), which is large for this era. Most watches in the 60s and 70s were 32-34mm.
RARE DIAL COLOR
This watches comes with a beautiful, vibrant blue dial, which appears to be the original dial according to the opinion of my watchmaker.
FLAT SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL
Also unique to this watch is the flat sapphire crystal. Not only is the crystal a much higher quality and scratch resistant material than the mineral crystals of the 1960s, but it is also FLAT, adding to its already slim profile. The crystal is in almost flawless condition (need magnifying lens to observe any flaws).
THIN CASE
This case measure 8mm wide. However, this watch truly wears like a 5mm watch due to the unique sloping of the case on its backside, possible due to the extra slim 711 movement.
RARE 711 MOVEMENT
The 711 caliber movement with 24 jewels, designed in 1964, was not only one of Omega’s FIRST self-winding, fully automatic movements but also one of its slimmest at that time.
MECHANICAL CONDITION
This watch is in excellent mechanical condition and fully operational. It was recently serviced in March 2020 by an experienced watchmaker with more than 35 years of experience. This watch was ACTUALLY serviced, and comes with a receipt and proof-of-service, as well as a 2-year transferable warranty. The 2020 service cost around 0 and replaced the mainspring, in addition to a full cleaning.
QUINTUPLE SIGNED
The dial, movement, crown, interior case back, and buckle are all authentic and signed Omega.
COSMETIC CONDITION
The watch is in beautiful condition. The blue dial color has not faded, the markers are in pristine condition, and the Sapphire Crystal is nearly flawless.
However, please pay close attention to the pictures as there is some normal wear to be expected from a 50-year-old watch. There is slight discoloration on the dial edges around the 11 and 1 o’clock markers, and there is also some wear on the edge of the watch rotor within the movement (not visible when case is closed). There is also two very TINY dings on the right edge of the 12 o’clock marker, and minor scratches on the side and back of the case, as shown in the pictures.
However, the watch is in overall excellent condition, especially when you consider that both the dial and case are believed to be original and have never been refinished. When worn, this watch definitely catches eyes and is a great timepiece to accompany any outfit from black tie to a black t-shirt.
ACCESSORIES
The watch comes with an 18mm, top-grain leather, quick release watch strap from Ritche. My favorite thing about this strap is the quick release feature, meaning it takes less than 60 seconds and ZERO watch tools to switch out to a different color watch strap that also has quick release!
