    Description

Letting a lovely vintage piece go from my personal collection. The Chronodato has achieved legendary cult status among vintage collectors, made by the Swiss company Angelus known for their high quality chronographs. This one is powered by the venerable, in-house caliber SF 217, whose design influence lives on in the workhorse Valjoux 72c that came later.
This watch is in its original condition and was made in 1944. The internals are all original, serviced by an expert in San Diego in 2020. I am happy to find and include the service receipt with the sale. The watch is housed in a 38mm case, considered a jumbo size at the time for sure (many column wheel chronographs were squeezed into 33mm cases typical of the era), and a size that wears surprisingly well today. The faceted lugs and original brushing on the caseback are all intact, and the gold shell is in great condition. The dial has aged gracefully with a warm patina, and please note some wear on parts of the date numerals running along the outer edge of the dial face. Other charming aspects are the red highlights at 3 minute marks on the minute sub-register: these indicated the intervals at which you would pay for an international call back in the day, a bit of vintage flair that also adds a whimsical splash of color to the otherwise restrained and stoic design.
I have priced this barely above what I paid for it originally, many years ago before the vintage watch market took off, and my asking price is significantly lower after adding in the price of recent service. This thing is running like a top and I hope the next owner will take good care of it; please note vintage watches are delicate and should not be considered waterproof or shockproof, and it is best not to over-wind them.
Thanks for looking and check out my extensive feedback over many years. This piece is also covered by eBay's authenticity guarantee, though I am a thorough collector and personally verify all my piece as well. I hope this piece of history finds joy in new stewardship; wear it in good health and happy watch hunting!
